THE MODERN FRIESIAN HORSE was developed from an
ancient European breed and is the only horse native to the
Netherlands. There is evidence that Friesians may have existed
since 1000 B.C. Friesians are from an area in the northwest
corner of the Netherlands called Friesland and are the official
Royal Dutch breed. Their ancestors were favored by knights, being
easy to train, eager to work, kind in disposition, and with the
